BRONTE, Charlotte.

Rare books by Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë, including first editions, finely bound copies, and handsome sets of the collected works.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë (1816–1855; 1818–1848; 1820–1849)

The Brontë sisters were among the most vivid, passionate and intelligent novelists of the nineteenth century. Their books were originally published under masculine pseudonyms: Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. Though not their first publication (their collective volume, Poems, 1846, was a notable failure), Charlotte’s Jane Eyre was an overnight publishing sensation and established her literary fame. Emily and Anne’s deaths within months of each other, along with that of their addict brother Branwell, left Charlotte as literary executor of her siblings’ reputations.

Regularly available editions of works by the Brontë Sisters include the Collected Works, the Thornton Edition, the Shakespeare Head Edition and the Dulac Edition.
