Arthur Edward Waite was a mystic and historian of occultism and alchemy and is most famous now for his pictorial tarot deck, designed in 1910 with Pamela Coleman Smith; however, he "was never truly an occultist: in all his work he presented himself as a non-denominational mystic" (ODNB). "A southern-German priest, Hermenegild Adam, wrote a book of devotional entitled An Easy and Sure Way to Heaven, which by 1771 had ten editions.
