  1. The Pete Johnson Story.

    The Pete Johnson Story.

First and only edition, extremely uncommon, OCLC lists some 20 copies, but only 2 outside of North America. Survey of the life and work of one of the great boogie-woogie pianists, issued to raise funds to help support him in hard times following a stroke. In his survey The Blues - From Robert Johnson to Robert Cray Tony Russell places Johnson in the trio of Boogie-Woogie Greats with Meade "Lux" Lewis and Albert Ammons, noting that, while he shared their "technical virtuosity and melodic fertility", Johnson was "more comfortable than Lewis in a band setting; and as an accompanist, unlike Lewis or Ammons, he could sparkle but not outshine his singing partner," while Cook and Morton refer to his "mastery of boogie-woogie and blues piano" (The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings).
