Elizabeth Blackadder is a Scottish printmaker and painter, and was the first woman to be admitted to the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy. Her work has been exhibited at the Tate Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. From 1962 - 1986 Elizabeth Blackadder taught at the Edinburgh College of Art. During this period she was awarded an OBE, which was promoted to a DBE in 2003. Her art reflects her travels to Japan and the United States of America, incorporating Eastern painting techniques and souvenirs from her travels.
