Crisp engraving showing cameleons and a crocodile by the acclaimed Swiss engraver, Matthew Merian. Born in Basel, Merian spent most of his life in Frankfurt where he met and married Theodore de Bry’s daughter. In 1623 he took over the publishing house of his father-in-law.
