No 136 with text.
This superb plate comes from the third volume of Lindley’s wonderful and informative work entitled ‘The Pomological Magazine’, published in London by James Ridgeway in 1830. Lindley was the very first professor of botany at University College London, and in time, he became the first secretary of The Horticultural Society. In 1838 he wrote the first book explaining physiological principals in horticulture and, in addition to this, he also produced an influential report that lead to the establishment of The Royal Botanial Gardens at Kew in London.
