Lupiatt the Seat of Thomas Stephens
This print of Lupiatt is a wonderful example of Johannes Kip’s work. The house is rendered with great care and detail; and the surrounding wooded formal gardens and distant nature are illustrated with luxurious fullness. It was originally produced for the remarkable Britannia Illustrata before being published in Robert Atkyns’ The Ancient & Present State of Gloucestershire. A talented draughtsman & engraver, Johannes Kip (1653-1722) was a Dutchman who settled in England at the end of the 17th century.
