Southam the Seat of Kinard de la Bere Esq.
This print of Southam is a wonderful example of Johannes Kip’s work. The house and its surrounding gardens rendered with great care and detail; and the and the wooded and rocky coutnryside beyond is illustrated with luxurious fullness. It was originally produced for the remarkable Britannia Illustrata before being published in Robert Atkyns’ The Ancient & Present State of Gloucestershire. A talented draughtsman & engraver, Johannes Kip (1653-1722) was a Dutchman who settled in England at the end of the 17th century.
