René Bulll was born to an French mother and an English father in Dublin. He furthered his studies in Paris where he decided to pursue a career in illustration and drawing. Bull initially covered the main conflicts of his time like the Armenian Massacres, the Greco-Turkish Wars and the Boer War. He became a founder member alongside Cecil Aldin of the London Sketch Club. He illustrated Carmen, the Russian Ballets in a series of popular postcards and The Arabian Nights amongst other books.
