This delightful engraving depicts what was once the forum that was at the very centre and heart of ancient Rome. The Campo Vacchina was at the centre of Roman public life. Merian depicts it many centuries later, in ruins, with Romans and livestock wondering through the crumbling columns and fallen masonry.
