First paperback edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author on the title page “To Allan of Athens, to Ansen of Hellas and to the international being who does possess the sheer academic genius the rare liver-giver of poems to him my friend in Venice-Tanger-and rêves with Afrodisia, Ted Joans, 24 Dec 1975”. Alan Ansen (1922-2006) was a central figure in the loose collection of writers known as the Beats. He was close friends with Burroughs, Ginsberg and Kerouac, and was the inspiration for several of Kerouac’s characters including “Rollo Greb” in On the Road, and for “A.J.” in Burroughs’s Naked Lunch.

Octavo. Original orange and white pictorial wrappers. Wrappers rubbed, a few slight marks to edges. A very good copy.
