WARREN, Robert Penn.
All the King’s Men. A play.
First edition thus (originally published as the author’s first novel in 1946 by Harcourt, Brace & Co); the play was first performed at the East 74th Street Theatre, NYC, on October 16 1959. This copy is inscribed on the front free endpaper to Conrad Aiken and his wife Mary, “To Conrad + Mary, with friendship and admiration, Red, Fairfield, May 3, 1960”. Warren admired Aiken’s writing, and included an Aiken story as editor of the 1954 Dell book “Short Story Masterpieces”, as well as later writing the introduction to the 1982 Schocken edition of Aiken’s “Collected Short Stories”.
