First printings signed by John Ashbery (twice), Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Philip Lamantia, Michael McClure, David Meltzer, John Updike and with an inscription by Robert Creeley, which reads, “For Eric – still walking! With my best, Bob, 6/5/96”. All seven authors contributed to this short-lived but highly influential literary magazine, which was created by the editors of the Chicago Review who resigned and started this new publication when the Winter 1959 issue of The Chicago Review was censored for containing excerpts from William Burrough’s Naked Lunch. The first issue of the Big table contains the complete contents of the suppressed issue of The Chicago Review, including the extracts from Naked Lunch. With the publisher’s subscription card loosely inserted.
