First edition, first printing of the enduringly popular story of a resourceful and loyal sheep dog. The Yorkshire-born author was a failed Hollywood screenwriter, somewhat ironical in that his book became the basis for the famous film starring Roddy McDowall and Elizabeth Taylor (1943), six sequels, six television series, and an updated remake of the first film in 1994.
