This volume contains five poems (“The Faun”, “Dying Gladiator”, “Portrait”, “The Lilacs”, and “L’Apres-Midi d’un Faune”) and three short prose works (“New Orleans”, “On Criticism”, and “Verse Old and Nascent: A Pilgrimage”), all of which had previously appeared in the New Orleans magazine The Double Dealer. The Hemingway poem appears on the back cover. A slight, attractively produced publication, the first book issued by Paul Romaine’s Casanova Press.
Octavo. Original stiff yellow wrappers printed in red and black. Title page and headings throughout printed in red, tipped-in portrait frontispiece of Faulkner. Without the slipcase; a little wear to spine. A very good copy.
