The Fifth Column. A Play in Three Acts.
First separate edition, first printing. Originally published in 1938 in The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories. This is the original version as written by Hemingway, rather than the adapted version of Benjamin Glaser, who produced the play to great acclaim in the winter of 1940. Hemingway wrote “The Fifth Column”, his only play, in Madrid while it was being bombarded during the Spanish Civil War. Scarce.
Octavo. Original grey cloth, titles to spine and upper board in red. With the dust jacket. Endpapers partially tanned. An excellent copy in the nicked and tanned jacket with chips from the ends of the spine panel affecting the titles.
