First edition, first printing. This book contains the first printing of Hemingway’s only play, The Fifth Column, written under bombardment in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War; it also contains four previously uncollected stories and reprints of short stories from In Our Time, Men Without Women, and Winner Take Nothing.
Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine gilt on a black panel, facsimile of author’s signature to front cover in black, top edge yellow. With the dust jacket. A few small light stains to rear cover, a small dark mark to spine, edges and endpapers tanned, spine ends and corners very lightly rubbed. An excellent copy in price-clipped jacket with dusty spine, rubbed and nicked extremities, a couple of small closed tears and minor loss to head of spine and rear flap unnecessarily repaired with tape.
