First collected edition, John Barth’s copy with his signature in blue ink to the half-title. Barth’s relationship with Updike began in 1966 when he was teaching at the University of Buffalo in 1966 and wrote to the famously reclusive Updike asking him to read at a lecture series that was also to include Norman Mailer and Joseph Heller. A superb association.

Spine gently rolled, edges foxed, backstrip slightly faded at extremities, small dent to bottom edge of rear board. A very good copy in the bright dust jacket.
