Early printing of this fascinating anti-dance treatise directed against the waltz craze that was sweeping America. Faulkner, described on the title page as “formerly the Proprietor of the Los Angeles Dance Academy and ex-President of the Dancing Masters’ Association of the Pacific Coast”, converted “from a dancing master and servant of the ‘evil one’ to an earnest Christian and a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ” and here explains “the inherent dangers of letting beautiful young daughters of wealthy parents learn the waltz” (Ericksen, Dance with me: Ballroom Dancing and the Promise of Instant Intimacy, p.31), identifying dance schools as “the kindergartens of brothels”.

Small octavo. Wire-stitched in the original pictorial card wraps. Cover artwork of the devil bowling along a pretty young maiden in a hoop; illustrations to the text, some full-page. Wraps somewhat soiled, and with some creasing, small chip from the upper panel,. no loss of text or image, text browned, overall very good.
