First and limited edition, first printing (preceding the UK edition by six months), one of 375 copies signed by the author. “This book is an effort to describe a visit to the United States, and to express gratitude for the delightful hospitality with which the visitors were received… Beginning in New York, the travellers proceeded to Aiken [South Carolina]; thence, through South and North Carolina, to Virginia, (with a visit to Washington thrown in). On to Providence, Boston, Philadelphia, and an entirely enjoyable experience ended, as it had begun, in the varied and exciting entertainments that New York and Long Island offer” (Somerville writing in Hudson’s bibliography).

Tall octavo. Original red cloth, gilt lettered spine, untrimmed. With the original glassine wrapper and slipcase. Frontispiece, 7 plates by the author, and head-pieces. Some old tape repairs to slipcase. An excellent copy, not often found with glassine wrapper and slipcase.

Bibliography: Hudson p. 50.
