Ingstad sold his successful legal practice in 1926 and travelled to Canada, spending three years as a trapper in the Northwest Territories. On his return in 1960 he would unearth proof that the Vikings had reached the New World 500 years before Columbus. Scarce in the dust jacket

Large octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket, retaining the publisher’s red wrap-around band printed in black. 24 photographic plates including portrait frontispiece. Faint mottling to cloth along spine and to portion of rear board, edges foxed, a little spotting to prelims. A very good copy in the bright dust jacket with a small blue ink-stain to the front panel to no loss of text.
