Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine and upper board lettered and elaborately decorated in gilt and black, centred on the Pinkerton Agency logo of an eye captioned “We never sleep”, lower board with blind panelling, cream coated endpapers. 14 engraved plates with tissue guards, contemporary gift inscription to initial blank. Slightly cocked, rubbed and a little frayed at extremities, a few spots to prelims, endpapers a little finger-soiled, otherwise a very good copy.
