First edition of this beautifully illustrated history of the Archbishops of Canterbury’s London residence. With three additional plates loosely inserted.

Quarto (300 x 228 mm). Later green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments with gilt titles direct, marbled paper sides, all edges speckled red. Engraved frontispiece, additional title vignette and 21 other plates including 6 coloured plates. Late 19th-century bookseller’s ticket to front pastedown. Boards a little rubbed, spotting to prelims and to margins of plates. An excellent copy.
