First edition, first printing of this handsomely illustrated monograph, containing “an historical account of cultivated cherries, the botany of this fruit, a statement of its present economic status in America, descriptions of all known varieties of cherries, the synonymy and bibliography of the species and varieties, and biographic sketches of the persons who have contributed materially to cherry culture in America” (preface). Well-represented in US holdings, though five copies only traced in British and Irish institutional libraries.

Folio. Original green buckram, framed titled gilt to spine and front board. Photogravure portrait frontispiece with tissue guard, 56 colour plates. Covers slightly mottled along bottom edges, a few pale markings to rear tips rubbed and bumped, very occasional pale spotting largely restricted to margins, the images never affected. A very good copy with bright plates.
