First UK edition, first impression. Translation of Shui Hu Zhuan, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature. Attributed to Shi Nai’an (c. 1290-1372), the novel has been published with a variety of English-language titles including: Water Margin, Outlaws of the Marsh, Men of the Marshes, and The Marshes of Mount Liang.

Thick octavo. Original black cloth, gilt titles to spine, top edge gilt. With illustrated dust jacket. With one frontispiece, occasional black and white illustrations. Ends of spine slightly crumpled, rear cover slightly rubbed, browning to front and rear endpapers, tanned fore and bottom edge. An excellent copy in very good dust jacket with a few minor nicks to extremities and slight rubbing to rear cover.
