First edition, first impression of this account of Maurice Wilson, who sought to climb Mount Everest and believed that “through faith, and faith alone, he could reach the summit” (Foreword). Wilson perished at the foot of the North Col and his remains were found by the 1935 British reconnaissance expedition led by Eric Shipton. While writing the book, Roberts had access to Wilson’s letters, as well as his diary, which Shipton had found and brought back to England.
Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Illustrated with frontispiece, 16 pages of plates, and 3 maps. A fine copy in an excellent jacket with lightly rubbed rear panel and slightly bumped spine ends.
