First edition. Rundall’s compilation includes six letters from the Elizabethan navigator William Adams, the hero of James Clavell’s best-selling novel Shogun (1975),

Octavo. Original blue cloth, gilt lettered spine, ornamental blind stamping on covers, gilt stamp of Magellan’s ship (the Victoria) on front cover, yellow coated endpapers. Folding map of Japan, 5 plates of a facsimile autographs or privileges granted (2 folding). From the University of Manchester library, with their booklabel, neat embossed stamps on title, prelims, last few leaves and map. Spine a little rolled and toned (neat library stamp removed), otherwise a very good copy, clean and sound.
