Overland to India.
First edition in English, same year as the first in Swedish. An account of Hedin’s journey from Tehran to Lahore, extensively, and superbly, illustrated from the author’s own photographs.
2 volumes octavo. Original mid-blue cloth, title gilt to spine, camel head tool to the upper boards, top edges gilt, others uncut. In dust jackets. Coloured frontispieces and 4 other coloured plates, numerous black and white plates from photographs, 4 folding panoramas, 2 large folding coloured maps. Cloth a touch dulled in places, light toning, one photographic section a little loose, but overall a very good set in slightly rubbed and chipped jackets, that of Volume I lacking the top part of the spine, but unusual thus nonetheless.
