DE LA MARE, Walter.
His Travels and Adventures in the Rich, Strange, Scarce-Imaginable Regions of Romance.
First edition, first impression, of the author’s first book of prose. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author “To Henry Newbolt, from W. J. de la Mare, thank you” on the front free endpaper. An important association: after eighteen years working in the statistics department at Anglo-American Oil, De La Mare’s verse finally secured the “eager championship” of Newbolt, who secured him a royal bounty grant of £200 which allowed him to leave his day-job and devote himself to writing full-time (ODNB). This copy in second state, with the bracket after “Ramal” on the title-page.
