(BARKER, Ronnie.) HARTNOLL, Phyllis ed.
The Oxford Companion to the Theatre.
Presentation copy to one of the greats of British television comedy and light entertainment, Ronnie Barker (1929-2005), inscribed on a preliminary blank leaf: “To Ronnie, To say Congratulations on 25 ‘Glorious Years’ (contrary to the vicious slur about your age on p. 80) luv Danni (?) 11.11.73”. This was clearly signed at a star-studded party celebrating Barker’s quarter century in the business (he made his professional debut as an actor on 15 November 1948 as Lieutenant Spicer in a performance of J. M. Barrie’s Quality Street). Amongst the many luminaries who have signed are Josephine Tewson and June Whitfield, both of whom performed many times with Barker, Richard Briers, Michael Bates, Michael Hordern, Frank Windsor, Barker’s agent Peter Eade, Joan Sims, and Barker’s long-time partner and co-star of The Two Ronnies, Ronnie Corbett.
