First edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the title page “Inscribed for William S. Gray by T. S. Eliot 19.v.64.” The academic and teacher Dr William (“Woods”) Shelton Gray, Jr (1926-1993) was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and received his PhD from the University of Exeter. He established a correspondence with T. S. Eliot, W. H. Auden (who dedicated his poem “The Aliens” to him), and a number of other English and American writers and poets.

Slim octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in black morocco, titles to spine, twin rule to turn-ins, black endpapers, gilt edges. A fine copy.
