First edition in book form, first printing of the three act play which premiered on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre on February 14, 1968. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to film director Tony Harvey (“To Tony – I hope you do it. Neil.”), indicating a desire at the time for Harvey to direct the film adaptation of the play. The film version, released in 1971, was in fact directed by Arthur Hiller, and Neil Simon expressed unhappiness with the result.
