WOOD, Harry Stotesbury.
Glimpses of the Wild:
An Observer's Notes and Anecdotes upon the Wild Life of Assam.
First edition, first impression; publisher’s file copy with their bookplate to front pastedown. Lieut.-Col. Wood served with the Ghurkas in Manipur; his Shikar Memories, published in 1934, recounts a 36-year career in big-game hunting, whereas the present volume is a descriptive account with chapters on the region’s birds, animals, reptiles and insects. Surprisingly scarce institutionally for a title of this period, with Copac listing seven copies (of which three in the British Library) and OCLC adding just six worldwide, and seldom seen in commerce with the dust jacket.
Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt, double rule to front board blind. With the dust jacket. Colour frontispiece with tissue guard, 10 black and white photographic plates. Spine sunned, boards slightly finger-marked, a few nicks and some discolouration to rear panel of dust jacket. A very good, tight copy.
