Laughter in the Dark.
First US edition, first printing, in the first state green cloth binding. Originally serialised in the literary journal Sovremennye Zapiski in 1932 under the Russian title ?????? ???????, the novel was first published in English as Camera Obscura by John Long (London 1936). However, Nabokov was so displeased with the translation that he undertook his own, republishing it as Laughter in the Dark. Scarce in the dust jacket.

Octavo. Original green cloth, gilt lettered and decorated spine, fore-edge untrimmed. With the dust jacket. Front panel of jacket with closed-tear at head, small abrasion to back panel, a few nicks and chips, spine of binding just slightly rolled, tears in blank margin of two leaves (pp. 267-70) where they have been carelessly opened; despite this an excellent copy, the cloth and jacket both bright.
