First edition, first impression of the author’s first novel, a fictionalised account of her affair with Ford Madox Ford and the breakdown of her first marriage to Willem Lenglet: “she was breaking taboos for a woman writer in English” (ODNB). This volume, which followed her 1927 book of short stories, The Left Bank, was republished the following year under the title Quartet. Rare in the dust jacket, particularly in such excellent condition.
