First edition, uncommon just 6 locations on Copac, OCLC adds 15. “The objective of this work is to supply from original and official sources, information on some points of interest, which have not been fully explained either in the Despatches relating to the Punjab campaign, or in other sources [also] review[ing] the current of events from the death of Ranjeet Singh to the period in question … There is detail about the battles of Ramnagar, Chillianwalla, and Gujrat” (Chopra). Lawrence-Archer, (1823-89),was gazetted Second-Lieutenant in the 39th Foot Regiment in December 1840, and served with the 24th Foot Regiment throughout the Punjab Campaign in 1848-9, seeing action at the latter of the two battle noted above. He went on half-pay as a Captain in January 1869 and remained on the half-pay list until his death in February 1889. He spent his later years in the composition of a range of historical and genealogical works. Octavo. Original red cloth, title gilt to the spine, elaborate panelling in black to the boards, brown surface-paper endpapers. 5 maps, one of them folding. A little rubbed, minor chipping and splitting head and tail of the spine, hinges neatly repaired, pale toning, but overall a very good copy.
