First edition, first printing. The novel was the basis for the 1947 film of the same name, starring Cary Grant, David Niven, and Loretta Young, and later the 1996 film, The Preacher’s Wife, starring Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston and Courtney B. Vance.

Octavo. Original yellow cloth, titles to spine and front board black, blue patterned endpapers. With the art deco dust jacket. Bookplate to front pastedown. Edge of text block lightly foxed, some light discolouration to board edges from the binder’s glue (as often seen), tips bumped. An exceptional copy of this poorly-produced book, in the superb, bright jacket, with just a hint of rubbing to extremities.
