First edition, first impression, first state. With the requisite points: number series on the copyright page from 10 down to 1, “Joanne Rowling” as the copyright holder instead of J. K. Rowling, and the dropped line of text on page 7. There were three states of the first edition, and the total edition consisting of all three states is 5,150 copies; of that figure, it is generally held that there were 2,500 copies of the first state.
