First edition in English, first printing, number 272 of 500 numbered copies, from a limited edition of 525 copies signed by the author on the limitation leaf. With the matching jacket with the number 272 added to the spine above the imprint at foot. Although the manuscript was composed in Saint-Exupéry’s native French language, it was written and published in New York, in both English and French versions in April 1943.

Quarto. Original pale brown cloth, titles and pictorial design to spine and front board in dark red. With the dust jacket. Housed in a full terracotta morocco solander box with pictorial block in black to front by the Chelsea Bindery. Illustrated throughout by the author. Bookplate to front pastedown of Olive Virginia Goodwin, ownership signature to half-title, small ink inscription to front free endpaper. Newspaper clippings tipped-in to rear free endpaper with offsetting to adjacent pages. An excellent copy, otherwise fresh internally, in the price-clipped and toned jacket with minor loss to spine ends and nicked extremities.
