First edition, first impression, of the first novel by poet Laura Riding, an atmospheric tale of Troy, with Cressida (or Chaucer’s “Crisseyde”) as its central heroine. Riding was living with Robert Graves in Deia, Majorca, until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, and they founded and ran the Seizin Press together. Scarce in this condition.

Octavo. Original black boards, titles to spine in black, top edge dyed orange. With the illustrated dust jacket. With an index of principle characters, and a colour folding map at the rear. Mild partial tanning to endpapers; a superb copy in excellent condition, with the dust jacket only very lightly rubbed.
