The ABC of Finance; or, the Money and Labor Questions famiarly explained to common people, in short and easy lessons.
Second edition, originally published in 1877. Newcomb (1835-1909) considered himself to be chiefly an astronomer, but his contribution as an economist is estimated highly by Milton Friedman in The New Palgrave (III, 651). His Principles of Political Economy (1885) was credited by Irving Fisher with the earliest formulation of the Quantity Theory of Money. “Newcomb published well over 50 popular magazine articles on economic issues, some of which formed the basis for two popular books: The ABC of Finance (1877) and A Plain Man’s Talk on the Labor Question (1886)” (Friedman).
