First and limited edition, one of 125 numbered copies (but this copy unnumbered) signed by the author. A handsomely produced book, printed on handmade paper at the Chiswick Press, the binding designed by Rex Whistler, and published as number 4 in Faber’s “The Poets on the Poets” series. This is an important study of the fifteenth-century Scottish poet William Dunbar by the Scottish poet and literary scholar Rachel Annand Taylor (1876-1960). “In 1931 Taylor published a monograph, Dunbar: the Poet and his Period (1931) on the medieval poet, her contribution to the renewed interest in Scottish literature encapsulated in [Hugh] MacDiarmid’s phrase ‘Not Burns, Dunbar!'” (ODNB).

Octavo. Original blue cloth gilt, top edges gilt, untrimmed. Spine sunned, covers slightly bowed. An excellent copy.
