WOTTON, Sir Henry.
Or a Collection of Lives, Letters, Poems, with Characters of Sundry Personages; and other Incomparable Pieces of Language and Art, By the Curious Pencil of the Ever Memorable ... The Second Edition with large Additions.
First published 1651, this an expanded second edition. Contains Izaak Walton’s life of Wotton together with a selection of Wotton’s papers including his Elements of Architecture, first published 1621, reflecting “his accumulated insights during two decades” as a diplomat in Florence and Venice.
Duodecimo (141 69 mm). Nineteenth-century half calf, marbled boards, black morocco label, foliate gilt roll to low bands, buff endpapers. Portrait frontispiece and 3 other portraits, Slightly rubbed, neat restoration on the joints and corners, frontispiece and title page trimmed a little tight, light browning and a persistent pale damp-stain to the margins throughout, but overall very good.
