An attractive edition of the Book of Common Prayer in a lovely Regency binding, bound in two volumes for ease of use. The majority of the plates are stipple engravings by the accomplished Charles Middlemist after Thomas Stothard and show marriage, baptism, a funeral etc, in contemporary settings.

Contemporary red straight-grain morocco, decorative gilt spines, two-line gilt border on sides enclosing broad floriate blind roll-tool borders, gilt corner ornaments, all edges gilt, drab green endpapers. Engraved title page, frontispiece and 10 plates. Ownership inscription on recto of frontispiece and head of first page in volume II (“Mrs Hurst, 14 March 1844”). A few scrapes to covers.
