First edition, first impression of this biography of Michael Collins by Desmond Ryan, a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood who served in the General Post Office during the Easter Rising. After the revolt and a prison sentence Ryan completed his BA and worked as a journalist at the Freeman’s Journal, though he became disillusioned with the civil war and moved to London in 1922. Desmond remained interested in Irish politics throughout his life, and published a number of books on the subject, including biographies of Éamon de Valera, Seán Treacy, and John Devoy.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Boards a little rubbed and dulled with some small marks, spine rolled, light spotting to edges of text block, partial toning to free endpapers. A very good copy in the rubbed, chipped, and frayed jacket with tanned spine panel.
