This issue includes a new introduction in which Churchill explains that “a generation has grown up which knows little of why we are in Egypt and the Sudan, and what out work there has been”, and expressing “the hope that the story which these pages contain may be some help and encouragement to those young men and women who have still confidence in the destiny of Britain in the Orient”. Originally published in 1899.
Octavo. Original mauve cloth, titles to spine in black. With the pictorial dust jacket. With maps and plans. Contemporary bookplate to front pastedown. Spine a little rolled, contents lightly toned. An excellent copy in a chipped, toned jacket with several old tape repairs on the verso.
