(GOBLE, Warwick) BASILE, Giambattista.
Stories from the Pentamerone
Selected and Edited by E. F. Strange. Illustrated by Warwick Goble.
First Goble edition, first impression. The deluxe limited edition, one of only 150 numbered copies. The Pentamerone was a seminal fairy-tale collection containing early forms of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Puss in Boots, Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel. It was originally written down from oral Italian sources by poet Giambattista Basile in the 17th century, and was the acknowledged source for Charles Perrault’s and the Grimm brothers’ fairy tale collections.
