Sir Alexander Taylor (1826-1912) served in India during the Sikh Wars, where he built a bridge over the Sutlej aiding troop movement to Lahore, and Indian Mutiny, where he was directing engineer at the siege of Delhi, and played a leading role in the construction of the Grand Trunk Road.
2 volumes, octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine and upper board gilt, top edges gilt. Frontispiece to each volume, 4 folding maps to volume I, 2 folding maps and 2 plates to volume II. Bindings skilfully refurbished. An excellent set.
