First edition, first impression of Trumbo’s first novel. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the half-title: “To Betty and Morton Grant. Here’s the book! Thanks awfully for the encouragement and criticism which helped so much toward making it a better job than it might have been. Dalton Trumbo 1/16/36.” Morton Grant was a fellow screenwriter and was, like Trumbo, blacklisted by the US House Un-American Activities Committee.
