First edition, first impression of the author’s first book. With the author’s signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, “For Henry Gibbs A reminder that you promised to come back and share another bottle of Nederburg with us some day – Nadine Gordimer”. Gibbs was a contemporary South African writer whose 1951 book Twilight in South Africa won the Anisfield Wolf book award. Gordimer herself won the prize in 1988. Literary association copies of this book are rare.

Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine in silver. With the dust jacket. Some light toning to the contents, a little fading at the ends of the spine but an very nice copy in the frayed and somewhat tanned, price-clipped dust jacket with small loss at the spine.
